2011 YEAR UPDATE

January 2012

You'll notice a bit of a space in between last July's update and this one, but that's what happens when you focus on so many projects.

Beginning in August, vMediaWorks went to work scouting for locations around Bangkok and Pattaya for a new G4 travel series starring Sasha Gray.   Can't say too much more on the subject, but the shoot was a great success and we're all awaiting to see it on the air (which should happen this year, we think).

September brought us famed Dutch travel series 3 Op Reis. The Vietnam shoot started in Hanoi, before heading down to Hoi An and a nearby tribal Ka Tu village (a highlight, for sure!).  The drive north took in Hue and the Vinh Moc tunnels before joining up with MAG and their defusing team in clearing out a few unexploded bombs left over from the war nearly 40 years ago. 

Finally, Morningstar Entertainment arrived in November for a 2-episode shoot for a health/surgery series detailing the great work of Dr McKay McKinnon.   We will have more on this in another update (it deserves its own space!), but the shoot was a huge success, both in terms of the footage, of course, but better yet, 4 patients got a chance at a new life by having horrible disfiguring and life-threatening tumors removed by the amazing doctor.  

The new year of 2012 brings us the continuation of the McKinnon story as the patients recover, as well as a New Zealand based food show.  But more on that later.

JULY UPDATE!

July 2011

vMW and Mandt Productions have just finished filming on the Thai episode of upcoming series STRANGERS IN DANGER, to be aired on US cable channel FUEL TV.  Part travelogue - part Jackass, this hilarious show will make you laugh and cringe, often at the same time!  Refer to their website for more info and air dates.  In the meantime, check out the trailer!

Also in Vietnam, vMW had the pleasure of working with Singapore based Beach HousePictures on their series HIDDEN CITIES for the History Channel.  What ensued was a great road trip from Hoi An to Ninh Binh, all with a new way of seeing the sites that we've taken for granted for so long!  Great stuff, and check their website for air dates.

We are now hard at work on an exciting new project/series to be filmed in Thailand at the beginning of October.  Stay tuned for more in a few weeks!

LOCKED: DESTINATION TRUTH: VIETNAM

vMW and the Destination Truth crew have finished filming their latest adventure in... well... you'll have to wait to find out!  But we can say this: this latest Vietnam episode will feature plenty of action and spooks, with a healthy dose of humour that the SyFy series is known for.  This latest episode, which will air as part of the series' 5th season, will mark the 4th episode vMW and Ping Pong Productions have teamed up for the show, having taken us through jungles and temples in Thailand, and around Halong Bay in Vietnam.  We will let you know once the air dates become official.

BUSY BUSY BUSY!

The final months before summer officially kicks in (though it's been hot since, well, for ever here in Southeast Asia!) are turning out to be busy here at vMW, with corporate films and TV shows galore.  Neil Mandt produced "Strangers In Danger", which filmed its pilot in Vietnam a few months ago, has been picked up (congratulation!) and Thailand is part of series 1's portfolio.  SyFy's famed "Destination Truth" is also coming back, though where this time remains a mystery (no worries, we'll tell you later!).  Both projects are now in pre-production, with shooting commencing mid-June to Mid-July.

GORDON'S GREAT ESCAPE NOW AIRING

Though the shoot took place a year ago, Channel 4 has now started airing famed UK chef Gordon Ramsay's new show, Gordon's Great Escape.  The 4-part series sends Mr Ramsay on a gastronomic adventure around Southeast Asia as he tracks down the region's most authentic food and cooking experiences.  vMediaWorks worked on 2 episodes: Vietnam - episode 2 (where you'll catch our ace fixer TT explaining the, huh, not entirely factual reasons behind the eating of snake meat...), and Thailand - episode 4.  You can read about our experience here.  

vMW EXPERIENCES A STRONG START TO 2011!

We haven't had many chances to update the news section in the last 2 months as we've been too busy!  First, we had to organize all permits and several locations for an Israeli team shooting a popular comedy show (the Israel "Little Britain", basically) with a deadline of about, oh, ONE WEEK!!  We managed to pull it off and leave the crew happy, but without a few extra gray hairs!!

Next, busy producer Neil Mandt of MandtBros Productions and "Last Stop For Paul" fame is in Vietnam shooting a pilot, and the interesting blend of adventure and travel could very well make this one a winner.  

We're also busy prepping for corporate shoots in the Mekong Delta and a few other tidbits we'll reveal later.  All in all, a very good start to 2011!  Please keep them coming! ;)
